Sextant: GIS competency center dedicated to supporting and managing railway projects
The Coexya GIS teams have been supporting SNCF Réseau since 2021.
Client context
A key player in the development of the rail transport offer in France and Europe, and manager of the national rail network, SNCF Réseau oversees traffic on nearly 28,000 kilometers of track, ensuring its maintenance, modernization and safety.
In response to major transformations shaping our society, SNCF Réseau is accelerating its transition to help increase the share of rail transport within new mobility solutions. The challenge: achieving a threefold objective combining economic and industrial efficiency, regional development, and environmental preservation.
Objectives and challenges of the Sextant competency center
The missions of the Sextant competency center include:
- Study, design and development of projects related to railway infrastructure and land parcel data
- Updating the reference system and the data update processes for SNCF databases
- Production of GIS mapping applications using Portal for ArcGIS (WAB, ExB, AGOL) and maintenance in operational condition of the platform
- Production of FME Server scripts for multiple projects and maintenance of the FME platform
- Production of deployment automation scripts
Examples of Coexya achievements
- Study, design and execution of version upgrades and technical/content migrations to the ArcGIS Portal cloud and FME
- Creation of a technical process enabling data updates for an energy management application (PDL)
- Computation of multi-criteria geographic indicators to monitor fire outbreaks along the rail network
- Calculation of geolocation for virtual beacons to provide accurate curve descriptions to train drivers for each journey (TS/CO sheet)
- Third-party application maintenance in critical environments, integration of managed “cloud” services oriented around big data
- Prototype demonstrating the feasibility of dynamically representing railway worksites through a web-based mapping application
- Web mapping tool for nationwide data quality monitoring, enabling professionals to quickly identify areas requiring corrections
